SKYPE is a program that you download for free from the internet.  It allows you to send instant messages to other SKYPE users who are online at the same time.  It also allows you talk to other SKYPE users for free, using a headset with a microphone.  In addition to these free services you can choose to purchase credit that allows you to call land lines in many countries from your PC for an extremely low fee (around 1.3 pence/2.4 US cents/2.8 Canadian cents per minute).  Skype is a fantastic tool to help you communicate with a potential exchange partner.
